First grades, in collaboration with their studies of Japan in their classroom, have been hard at work making stamps. We made them from sticky foam and stiff styrofoam. Students had to sketch a few design ideas, and pick their favorite. These plans were then used to create their stamp. The stamps will be used when the first graders make kimonos with their classroom teachers later in the year, BUT I use them first to make their own patterned origami paper.
We’ve just started making some paper sculptures with the origami paper. The first origami piece we created were some pecking birds.
