Brushstroke Search – Grade 1

One part of grade one’s painting unit is understanding the big idea: Artists use brushes to make different kinds of brushstrokes. One way we’ve spent time understanding that, was a brushwork inventory of a painting by Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian.

First graders used the iPads to import a painting image into Explain Everything, and then they drew on top of the painting, documenting which way the brushstroke was applied.
When we start our final painting in the upcoming week, they will explore brushstrokes in their own work.
