Op Art Sketchbook Covers – Grade 5

Movement in Square, by Bridget Riley

In fifth grade, Conant students start using sketchbooks, and so in class we’ve spent some time learning about why artists use sketchbooks. ย We’ve also been creating covers for the sketchbooks, taking our inspiration from Op Art. This unit is an introduction to 1-point perspective, which is one way to create the illusion of space/depth in an artwork. ย If you’ve ever tried your hand at any form of linear perspective, you know that it can be a really confusing concept at first. ย Each class has been working really hard to understand the concept, and do their best work. ย In the next couple of weeks, I will share some cover designs as they are finished. ย
