Op Art Sketchbook Covers – Grade 5

Standard
Movement in Square, by Bridget Riley

In fifth grade, Conant students start using sketchbooks, and so in class we’ve spent some time learning about why artists use sketchbooks.  We’ve also been creating covers for the sketchbooks, taking our inspiration from Op Art. This unit is an introduction to 1-point perspective, which is one way to create the illusion of space/depth in an artwork.  If you’ve ever tried your hand at any form of linear perspective, you know that it can be a really confusing concept at first.  Each class has been working really hard to understand the concept, and do their best work.  In the next couple of weeks, I will share some cover designs as they are finished.
