Texture Medallions & Observation Drawings – Grade K

Grade K artists have been finishing their studies of the Elements of Art this year, with a focus on Texture.  Over a number of classes, we learned that texture is an element of art, and that it is how something feels.  To work on understanding this, grade k artists created texture medallions using some plastic texture plates.  We tried to use our shoes, but the model magic kept sticking, so we problem solved, and used the plastic texture plates we had on hand for crayon rubbings.
These medallions were painted, and then strung on plastic cording, with some beads to make these sweet necklaces, or bracelets.  After the beading was done, grade k artists were asked to create an observation drawing of their texture medallions, to begin to understand that a drawn texture is a pattern or design.  Art can have actual texture, or visual texture.
