Portfolio Drawings

All students in grades K-6, at all schools in Acton create 2 drawings a year to add to their drawing portfolio.  These drawings are pencil drawings of a person, animal, building, and machine. Students rely on their memories for these drawings.
Depending on the age, students are encouraged to:
* use shading to show different values
* include a variety of details
* use patterns and textures

These drawings represent the students best work each year and the  group of drawings show a student’s progress over their 7 years at the elementary level.

Students concentrate on the art elements of line, shape, texture, value.

When your child brings these drawings home at the end of 6th grade, look for the development of: attention to detail, including texture and pattern; expression of movement; use of shading to show value; understanding of proportion and perspective
